The Lost Hakka
The Lost Hakka is a passion project by Chef Charles Leow, who is on a mission to rediscover what Hakka food truly is. His past experiences working with cuisine around the world have given him an eye-opening perspective on food and culture. However, the repetitive nature of professional kitchen life eventually led him to question both his identity and the meaning of his work, sparking a new direction in his culinary journey.

This project is not just about food; it’s about reconnecting with cultural roots and confronting how modern society is losing touch with its culinary heritage. In an age where fast food and convenience dominate, we often overlook the rich tapestry of flavours and stories that form our shared history. Through The Lost Hakka, Chef Charles explores how history, flavour, and tradition reveal where we come from and who we are. It’s not just about eating — it’s about uncovering layers of identity in the most delicious way possible.

Having met Chef Charles Leow through a course assignment, we agreed to support each other in building our respective careers. He would invite us to his events and activities, providing us with the opportunity to practice and refine our skills in food photography and videography. In return, we would share our work with him to be featured on his social media platforms, helping to document and promote his events. These experiences not only increased our exposure but also contributed to the development of a stronger portfolio. It has been an incredibly valuable opportunity for us as aspiring media professionals.

Mag's Wine Kitchen Collaboration
Mag’s Wine Kitchen proudly presents Finding Lost Hakka, a special menu dedicated to reviving rare and forgotten dishes from Hakka cuisine. This event is a collaboration between Chef Charles, Chef Magdalene, and Chef Ian, who have come together to curate a menu that honours heritage, memory, and the powerful stories behind each handcrafted dish.

Chef Charles invited us to cover the event at the restaurant. I was responsible for capturing and editing the event highlights video, while my partner, Michelle, handled the photography. The final video showcases footage from the evening, preserving the essence of this meaningful culinary experience.
